Bangladesh
The violence in Bangladesh is not stopping. While on one hand, a major political reshuffle is taking place due to these violence, the parties involved in these violence have distanced themselves from the reservation issue and started targeting Hindus. Today we will tell you why Hindus are being targeted in Bangladesh.
Hindus targeted in Bangladesh
The protesters who were angry against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh have now targeted Hindus. Let us tell you that the condition of Hindus in Bangladesh has deteriorated a lot in the last few years. Historically, the population of Hindus was about 22 percent in 1951. But by 2011 it has come down to about 8.54 percent. The main reason for this is religious persecution and economic marginalization.
Hindu population in Bangladesh
According to Bangladesh’s news website Daily Star, the population of Bangladesh in 2022 was a little more than 16.5 crores. Of these, 7.95 percent people belong to the Hindu community. According to the number, the number of Hindus is 1 crore, 31 lakh (13.1 million). The Hindu community in Bangladesh is second in terms of population.
The exodus of Hindus continues
Being a minority in Bangladesh, Hindus are facing many challenges. Not only this, many people of the Hindu community have lost land and property due to laws like the Property Act. Let us tell you that the Property Act allows government appropriation of Hindu-owned land. Due to this, about 60 percent of Hindus have become landless.
According to a report, about 11.3 million Hindus have left Bangladesh since 1964. Some reports have even claimed that the number of Hindus in Bangladesh will be completely wiped out in the next three decades.
Hindus in Bangladesh
According to the data of the 1901 census report of India, at that time, as a province of United India, the population of Hindus in East Bengal (now Bangladesh) was more than 30 percent. But after the partition in 1947, East Bengal went to Pakistan and then when Bangladesh became an independent country in 1971, the number of Hindus there decreased significantly and they were targeted.
Controversial land laws
A controversial land law was in force in Bangladesh till the year 2021. Under this, the government had the right to take possession of enemy property. Under this law, the Bangladesh government had taken possession of about 26 lakh acres of land. Almost every Hindu family in Bangladesh was affected by this law.
Hindus are the target
Ever since Bangladesh was formed as a new country, the minority Hindus have been on the target there. The violence that started due to reservation once again gave the fundamentalists of Bangladesh an opportunity to commit violence against Hindus, that is why the fundamentalists are deliberately targeting the Hindus.
